The Five Components of Fitness

The 5 Components of Fitness are based in science and, if properly applied, will work to help any person reach their fitness goals. By individualizing the 5 Components a person can achieve goals safely and effectively while performing the optimal amount of exercise and consuming the optimal amount and type of food.

Food Intake

Food intake is the amount and type of food a person consumes. It represents 60 – 70% of a person’s goal regardless of the type of goal (weight loss, muscle hypertrophy, sports performance etc.). A person gets both energy and nutrients from food and the type of food consumed will affect both satiety and performance.

Cardio-Respiratory Training

Cardio-Respiratory Training is the most efficient way to burn calories (lose fat). It increases calorie or energy expenditure, benefits health, and aids in or determines performance. Increasing cardio-respiratory exercise requires an increased level of nutrients, and the solution often is providing nutrients without calories.

Nutritional Supplementation

Nutritional Supplementation satisfies the above-maintenance level of calorie-free nutrition required by the body from the addition of exercise, possible caloric restrictions, and food preference realities. In short, it is nutrients without calories. Nutritional Supplementation provides the ideal environment within the body to realize optimal health and hasten results.

Resistance Training

Resistance training creates the need for the body to preserve and/ or increase lean body mass (muscle). Lean muscle mass is essential for long-term health (i.e. improved bone density), movement and the attainment of fitness goals. This is best accomplished if all nutrients and calories are available.

Professional Assistance

A Fitness Professional can individualize and adjust the above components to make it possible for anyone to achieve their fitness goals in a realistic and long-term manner. As an integrated system, a fitness professional can, in time, supply all the information and tools necessary for an individual to become their own fitness manager.
